NFI is currently operating an urban vegetable farm on almost half an acre of metro-accessible land in Northeast DC. We're teaching a hands-on, season-long training course in organic vegetable gardening and running a demonstration market garden to help with cost-recovery. In addition to the formal gardening class (limited to 20 students), NFI has had over 90 different volunteers working on-site in the garden since our inception in March 2009, and they have performed over 700 volunteer hours! We strongly believe in providing a hands-on education program to both volunteers and class participants, which, of course, requires significant material input. From our garden plot rental fees to the garden association, to tools and soil amendments, from our irrigation system to deer fencing, and from curriculum development to publicity -- (as necessary in our overall scope of work), NFI is a $25,000 project. This sum is being collected through a combination of program fees, farmers' market revenue, and the generosity of donors like you! Every small donation helps us reach our goal of meeting our budget during our first growing season. If you are able to make a tax-deductible donation to our programming, please make your check or money order to "America the Beautiful Fund" (noting NFI in the memo line) and send it to: NFI c/o America the Beautiful Fund 725 15th St. NW, Suite 605 Washington, DC 20005 Or donate online by clicking here. Be sure to include your name and address to receive your tax-deduction letter! We sincerely thank you for any help you can give! |
